India & Afghanistan defeat China in securing seats on UN's ECOSOC body

TS Trimurti, India's permanent representative to the United Nations took to his twitter handle to announce that India defeated China in securing a seat in the prestigious ECOSOC body of the UN. India, Afghanistan, and China had contested for seats on the UN's Commission on the Status of Women, a body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).


"India wins seat in Prestigious ECOSOC Body!," said TS Trimurti on Twitter. India will be a member of the UN's Commission on Status of Women for four years now, from 2021 to 2025.


India, Afghanistan, and China had contested for a seat in the prestigious UN body. While India and Afghanistan won the ballot, China couldn't even cross the half-way mark.

In June 2018, India was elected again as the non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council with a whopping majority of 184 votes out 192.
